BiomarkerBay went to Boston at the core of the Massachusetts Life Sciences arena for a full week of networking events, from 12 to 15 September 2016. Ymke van der Geld was present together with a delegation of Biomarker Bay partners, specifically Martin Smit, from the Management Board, Ep Oosting for ABL and Dawn Moore for QPS.
The Biomarker Bay week started with a series of networking events at the CIC Boston and continued with our own afternoon symposium “Increasing Success in Drug Discovery by Biomarkers: An Interactive Symposium” held at LabCentral (see the dedicated report here). Alzheimer’s disease and recent discoveries and challenges in biomarker research for degenerative brain diseases was also the topic of the interesting discussions the Biomarker Bay team had with Sean Lorenz, of the Aging Well Institute, and Professor Rhoda Au, from the Boston University Center.
Ymke attended the BioPharm conference, which was an excellent meeting place to connect with major academic institutions, start-ups and long-standing companies, leading the biotech and pharma market. Together with Martin and Ep, she also had meetings with representatives of a few pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies from the Boston area.
After coming back, Ymke, Ep and Martin reported that the trip to Boston was successful as new contacts were made and people recognized the added value of working with an organization as Biomarker Bay. We received positive feedback also on our new website, especially the assay database. We are thankful to Walter de Wit, Julia Knoeff and Cato Bechtold from the Holland Innovation Network and Rudy Schreiber for the help in organizing this week of events.
